Biodiversity Questions
What is biodiversity?
The variety of plant and animal life in the world in a particular habitat, a high level of which is usually considered to be important and desirable. It is a term given to the variety of life on earth. It is the variety within and between all species of plant, animals and micro-organisms and the ecosystem within which they live and interact.
What is land biodiversity?
Island biodiversity is a range of plant and animals on an island, which is very similar to biodiversity. An island is very isolated and makes no contact with other species. Islands boast a truly unique assemblage of life. Species become island dwellers either by drifting on islands or they break away from other larger masses. Many island species are endemic which means found no where else on earth.
Importance of biodiversity?
Biodiversity is very important to all species as it boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter what size, all have an important role to play. The greater species ensures natural sustainability for all life forms. These better, healthier ecosystems can then better withstand and recover from a variety of disasters.
Threats to biodiversity?
Biodiversity is under serious threat as a result of human activities. Main dangers worldwide are population growth, resource consumption, climate change, global warming, habitat conversion, urbanisation, in vase alien species, over exploration of natural resources and environment degradation.
