koalas in Peregian
Sunshine Coast Koala Wildlife Rescue
The Peregian and Marcus beach areas up in the Sunshine Coast have limited koala numbers, and recently are trying to reconnect and re-establish their koala numbers. The reappearance of 5 year old koala ‘Lucky’ after being missing for almost 1 whole year, has come to the attention of the council. Koala tracker Lyn Bollen has rescued many koala’s including the rescue of koala ‘Gloria’ in Peregian beach, who is known as the beautiful and sprightly little girl. A pair of koalas have been spotted In Peregian, along with both Lucky and Gloria. Residents in the area have been asked to report any sightings of these koalas.

Letter to council
As I have noticed the limited koala numbers on the sunshine coast, a thought of a few ways to help increase the koala population in the Peregian and Marcus beach area. Firstly, one way to increase the population is by doing routine checks on the koalas and also by putting trackers into the koalas we know to see where their food source is and their common shelter places. Furthermore, to help increase the koalas is by starting a rehab center where groups collect and rehabilitate rescue koalas. This will also help he koalas reproduce. On addition, the community should set up ‘safe areas’ in koala regions where there is food, water, and safety from other predators. This should be a walk in and out center where they are free to stay or leave. Other options to help the koalas is to set up community clean up groups to pick up rubbish, planting more trees for koalas to eat, and finally, to limit building sites near koala homes to help prevent koala deaths or koala confusion. Thank you for listening to my points on how to save the koala in the Peregian and Marcus beach area.
