Conservation of biodiversity questions
3 reasons why biodiversity is
important?
1) Boosts ecosystem productivity
2) Performs important biological services
3) Keeps environment healthy
What does threatened mean?
The term 'threatened' means someone or something is vulnerable or at risk; endanger. The origin of the word is from England. This word is used to describe animals or plants which are at risk in the near future of endangerment or extinction.
What does endangered mean?
The word 'endangered' means seriously at risk of extinction (loss of all of one species). It is known to cause something or something to be in trouble such as a dangerous place or situation.
How is extinct different?
The definition of 'extinct' means there is no more left a certain species, whereas the definitions of threatened and endangered have been classified as, still having their species alive or in captivity but with limited numbers due to various reasons.
How are we going to protect biodiversity?
1) Consume continently
2) Diversify your garden
3) Limit use of pesticides
What examples of endangered species are given in the video?
1) California condor
2) Przewalski horse
3) The American alligator
4) Homerus swallowtail butterfly
5) Scimitar-horned Aryx
6) The Tibetan yak
Are any of the animals recovered or extinct?
The California condor is now critically endangered meaning it has gone up in the scale. The przewalski horse is still endangered. The American alligator has dropped to least concern on the scale, the Homerus swallowtail butterfly is still endangered, the scimitar-horned aryx is now extinct in the wild and the Tibetan yak has dropped to vulnerable.
